Governance

The Coalition for Global Hearing Health is a 501c3 nonprofit entity registered with the United States Internal Revenue Service.

The CGHH is managed by an executive board (James E. Saunders, Jackie Clark, David Molter, and King Chung, Diego Santana-Hernández and Janet Choi supported by the Advocacy, Education & Training, Family, Community Empowerment, Best Practices, and Technology committees.

 

Board of Directors

Co- Chair

James E. Saunders, MD, MS, practices at Dartmouth Health in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and specializes in Otology and Neurotology and Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose & Throat).

Dr. Saunders has been involved with many projects related to the etiology, prevention and treatment of hearing loss in the developing world including collaborations with the World Health Organization and the Global Burden of Disease Project.

Co- Chair

Dr. Jackie Clark joined the Master’s Level faculty in Audiology at UT Dallas, and within a few years the program became a Doctoral Level in Audiology.

She currently teaches a variety of classes and provides clinical services at the Callier Center. In addition, she has been awarded an appointment as Research Scholar with the University of Witwatersrand School of Speech and Hearing Therapy in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is the Past President of the American Academy of Audiology. 

Advocacy Director

Dr Diego Santana-Hernández is CBM’s* Senior Global Advisor for Ear and Hearing Care. Born in Spain. Medical Degree by “Universidad La-Laguna”, Spain. ENT Specialist and General Practitioner certification by the Specialist Training Authority of the Medical Royal Colleges, UK. Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Diploma by Liverpool University, UK. Ear and Hearing Care programme lead, Bolivia, 2000-2011. CBM Regional advisor for Latin America 2007-2011, Global advisor since 2011. WHO external technical expert for Ear and Hearing Care since 2009. Community Ear and Hearing Health Journal chairperson since 2015. Coalition for Global Hearing Health’s Advocacy Director since 2019. CBM representative for the World Hearing Forum and the World Rehabilitation Alliance.

Technology Director

David Molter is Professor of Otolaryngology at Washington University in St Louis.

Best Practice Director

Dr. King Chung is an educator, a researcher, an inventor, and a humanitarian. Her areas of expertise are in amplification, calibration, and humanitarian audiology.

Her research team developed an automated hearing test app to improve the access to hearing loss identification, especially in low- to mid-income countries.

Communications Director

Professor Karin Joubert is an Associate Professor of Audiology at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. Her research focuses on preventive audiology, public health audiology, and person-centered care. She has received significant research funding for the establishment of the Ndlovu Wits Audiology clinic that offers accessible and comprehensive community-based audiological services in a rural community in the Limpopo province. In addition to her academic work, Professor Joubert is the co-chair of the University of the Witwatersrand’s non-medical ethics committee. 

Janet S. Choi, MD MPH

Assistant Professor, Caruso Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Division of Otology, Neurotology, and Lateral Skull Base Surgery, University of Southern California.

Janet S. Choi, MD, MPH, is a board-certified otolaryngology-head and neck surgeon and a fellowship-trained otologist/neurotologist at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in treating ear-related disorders. Her clinical interests include chronic ear disease, cholesteatoma, cochlear implantation, perforated tympanic membrane, otosclerosis, vestibular disorders and lateral skull base tumors, such as acoustic neuromas/vestibular schwannomas and meningiomas.
