Visa Process

Step 1 – Pay the conference Registration fee.

Step 2 – Receive a mail with a link to a form from the organisers. Add the required information.

Step 3 – CGHH organisers submit your information to the Indian ministry

Step 4 – Ministry issues visa application authority to the CGHH organisers

Step 5: CGHH organisers forward to you a letter of invitation including reference numbers

Step 6: You apply online to the Indian ministry – select medical conference – add info – upload image of yourself – passport – invitation letter and ministry approval – make payment 

Step 7: Indian ministry will send you a mail with Visa status.

The above process takes on average 2 weeks.

Practical Information for Your Visit to India

Electricity and Plug Adapters

India uses Type C (two round pins), Type D (three round pins) and Type M (larger three round pins) plugs. The standard electricity supply is 230 V, 50 Hz. Delegates are advised to bring a universal travel adapter compatible with Indian sockets. Please check that your electronic devices support 230 V before use.

Weather and Clothing

Chennai is generally warm and humid in October, with the possibility of light showers. Light, breathable clothing, comfortable footwear and an umbrella is recommended.

Currency and Payments

The local currency is the Indian Rupee (INR/₹). Google pay, Credit and debit cards are accepted at many hotels and larger establishments; however, carrying some cash is advisable for smaller purchases and local transportation.

Transportation

Chennai offers several transportation options for delegates travelling from Chennai International Airport to their hotels or other places of accommodation. Visitors may choose to pre-arrange a taxi with a local cab operator or book a ride through a mobile application.

We recommend that delegates plan their airport transfers in advance, particularly if arriving late at night or travelling with luggage.

This cab driver will pick you up at the exit gates. You may use the services of the taxi company for pre-booked cabs for airport transfers as well as city tours.

Delegates may also use ride-booking applications to arrange transportation from the airport to their accommodation in Chennai. These apps allow users to enter their destination, view available ride options, and check the estimated fare before booking. Availability and fares may vary depending on demand and time of travel.

To board these taxis at the airport, you must take a electric shuttle car to the aerohub ground floor.

            You may also check with the hotel where you have booked your stay. They may typically arrange for paid taxi services for drop & pickup from the airport.

  • When booking through an app, verify the vehicle registration number and driver details before boarding.
  • Allow extra travel time, as traffic conditions in Chennai may affect airport transfers.

Payment Options

  • Many cab services accept Google Pay (UPI) or cash payments in Indian Rupees (INR).
  • If you intend to pay by credit card, please confirm with the driver beforehand whether card payments are accepted.

Drinking Water

Delegates are advised to drink bottled or appropriately filtered water. When in doubt, choose sealed bottled water. You may also carry a bottle to refill at the conference venue. 

Language

Tamil is the primary language spoken in Chennai. English is commonly used in hotels, conference venues and many commercial establishments, although proficiency may vary. Speaking slowly or using a translation app may be helpful when communicating with local vendors or transport providers.

India follows Indian Standard Time (IST), which is UTC +5:30.

Mobile phone connectivity 

WhatsApp is widely used in India for messaging and calls. Delegates are encouraged to keep their accommodation details and relevant emergency contacts accessible during their stay.
